Grand Campaign
The official declaration of war against the newly sovereign Loo-Can-Tee never came when the raiders of the east unleashed their combined army and navy upon the supposedly hapless Goblin realm. A Jotun invasion fleet, much unlike the raiding parties sent in previous battles across the north in the last handful of years, had laid anchor off the Atranti Coast in the Loo-Can-Tee province of Lucente. A force of Jotun had disembarked and set to work pacifying the surrounding lands while showing remarkable restraint in these early periods of conquest compared to their usual quirks. The Jotun seemed determined and well armed and equipped, prepared to meet their goblin foe as assuredly as their ships could sail.
At odds against the Jotun invaders was Dog Crazzuz Pah-Ree-See, the current and ruling autocrat of the Loo-Can-Tee state. A viciously famed statesmen who often styled himself the new Seezurr, Crazzuz had not sat idle during his difficultly won sovereignty while sharing a border with the enemy he had fought to free himself from. Though the Jotun land forces progressed with little difficulty, the Dog was eager to meet his foe face-to-face in on the battlefield he knew best; the sea. A surprisingly large Dog-Fleet had been raised during the small lull in conflicts on the eastern coast of the northern continent and had been rallied to purpose. Cleverly, the Dog had waited to send forth his navy until AFTER the enemy fleet had disembarked their troops. A gamble and one that relied heavily upon his own armies to hold the line but what that could potentially sink the Jotun hopes for a quick and easy war.
In addition, and perhaps from a lack of attention to detail, the Jotun had made a crucial error in judgement; three years prior the islands off the coast of Loo-Can-Tee had been sold off to New Byrnis in order to secure New Byrnis' support for Loo-Can-Tee sovereignty. Now, with the Jotun invasion, that pact was invoked by swift ships sailing straight to the Crowned Republic. As luck would have it for the Jotun, however, the Duchy of Berranda could not provide troops in support due to issues on the home front and, for the time being, refused the call to support their allies.
While the military of New Byrnis began to crank the cogs of war to purpose the Dog would initiate the first battle of the war at sea. He had decided to meet the Jotun as they sailed down the Atranti Coast, sending forth a powerful navy to crack the Jotun sea power. After several days of maneuvers to select for superior winds and weather the Jotun flotilla had become cornered in an unfavorable part of coastline, pinning their fleet to the shore with little option for easy retreat. With the field of engagement set the fleets would meet each other head to head; fifty Jotun Dragonships to numerically inferior but more traditional Loo-Can-Tee fleet.
As the sea battle commenced the fighting in the northern province of Cerbon would bring the bloodshed inland as Loo-Can-Tee irregulars were raised to combat the Jotun forces there. The battle would be swift, more than likely, provided the Jotun could bring their opponents to heel. Time was not on the side of the Jotun who had a number of strategically important targets to take with little leeway to do so before reinforcements arrived to assist the beleaguered goblins of Loo-Can-Tee. Time, then, would tell which banner was raised above Lucente in the coming months.
SUMMARY
-- No declaration of war is given as the Jotun invade the Loo-Can-Tee with a surprise landing on the eastern coast of Lucente province, hereby known as the Atranti Coast.
-- New Byrnis honors its promise of support for Loo-Can-Tee Sovereignty by joining the war but, due to the impromptu nature of the initial attacks, will not arrive till at least the first modmark.
-- Two battles occur at the outset; the Battle of the Atranti Coast, a naval engagement between the Jotun and Loo-Can-Tee Fleets, and the Battle of Cerbon. Both will receive threads with the Battle of the Atranti Coast being a full battle while the Battle of Cerbon will be auto-finished due to size.
