Ikegami Sayoko walked over the battlefield, observing the casualties and wounded lying in the snow. Both Sacrye and Ikegami. Behind her walked Yukimura and Himawari, her siblings were silent as they followed her through the snow.
Finally, she stopped, and turned to where Gusko’s Rest sat in the distance, if she strained she could still here the din of cannonfire from somewhere, but for now the battle was stalled. Yukimura stepped up beside her and bowed slowly.
“We’ve gathered the dead and wounded, ours and theirs where we could. Our casualties have been light, all things considered. Come the morning light we should be rested enough to engage the Sacrye remnant.” He said, and she barely heard him, the adrenaline was still pumping through her body.
“Tell Furutaka, I want her to see to the Sacrye wounded once ours are stabilized.” The healer was already hard at work saving as many soldiers as she could. She’d fought in the melee with them and immediately gone to work.
“As you say, we don’t know the condition of the Firetooth troops inside, nor the Esharans yet. I have scouts keeping watch, so we’ll hopefully get some warning if they move on us.” Sayoko nodded slowly.
“Make sure the men are ready, we have time before morning, get them something to drink and a hot meal. Let them rest, but come first light, I want them awake and ready to march. This war ends here, we’ll secure Gusko’s Rest, and capture Aonag if we can.” Yukimura and Himawari bowed, before departing to their tasks.
The Ikegami had given their word to help the Firetooth secure Gusko’s Rest, hopefully, this battle would be the end of it. One way, or the other.
