When news that the ranging tribes of Ogres to the west had unified under some sort of mage had reached Kalmari lands, it had not been believed. Kalmar had long experiences with the near-giants, and rarely was it pleasant. Often times the Warrior Caste had been forced to repel Ogre raids on Visata and it's bounty of farmlands. All attempts at diplomacy with them had been stopped centuries ago, when it became clear that the ravenous creatures cared not for peaceful cooperation, and only to sate their hunger. It had been almost a hundred years since the last sighting of an Ogre when the news first began to trickle into the nation from traders and wanderers to the west.
After long consideration, the Congress of Guilds and the Workers Conclave had decided to send out a join expedition, in order to discover the truth of these peaceful, farming Ogres. It was a short trip from the western edge of Kalmar to the eastern edge of Caudierra, located in the great western forest. What they found their confirmed the rumors, but still shocked the visitors. Great fields of food stretched as far as the eye could see, worked by ogres with care and love. They were soon met by a squadron of Ogre warriors wielding longbows, who escorted them to a nearby trade post to await word from the capital on what to do with them.
The leader of the expedition, an artisan dwarf named Akal Keeret, was already considering his options. He had been given quite a lot of leeway by the Congress and Conclave on what he was allowed to do. And if this new country of Ogres was all as fertile and productive as the great fields outside, then this could be a great boon to Kalmar. A trading partner so near to their borders, which didn't require them to cross vast, fanatic and brigand filled distances. Plans filtered through his mind, as he settled in to wait.
