The road to Gui Chengshi was a difficult one. It took many weeks of travel from the trading hubs of Utari to reach the Orcish capital, and it's King. But the party that had made the trek did so gladly. The party of Artisans had long petitioned for the chance to open a more formal trade route with this far northern nation, and after years of waiting their efforts had paid off. The Eternal Seeker himself had signed off on the plan when it was brought before him, assigning the party a small contingent of Warriors to escort them through less friendly lands.
Contact between Kalmar and the much younger Mogui had always been sporadic, but friendly. The regimented ordered nature of Mogui society spoke to something deep within Kalmari culture, with it's own ordered castes and ways of life. And it was likely that the Mogui were happy to find a nation in the west that did not view them as evil devil races they longed to exterminate, as the many Dydorist nations did. But now, if this expedition was a success, that sporadic contact would finally be formalized into something far more.
As the party crested the hill and finally saw Gui Chengshi, some of the tension that had built up over the trip finally dissipated. It had been a very long trip, two months in unfriendly lands to reach here. A trip that had been made all the more dangerous by the composition of the diplomatic party. It was led by Ranmir Akal, an Orc. There had been serious concern over whether sending him was the correct move. Orcs were not welcome in some of the countries they had been forced to pass through in order to reach Mogui, and the Congress had not wanted to risk their own if it was not necessary. But it had been Ranmir that had started the petition, in the hopes that his nation might grow closer to the only major Orcish power in the west. And when he had taken his case before the Congress, the Guilds had voted to allow it.
But their fears had not been unfounded. Twice they had been attacked on the road by brigands, both times the attackers wearing markings that showed them to be members of extreme Dydorist sects. Thankfully, both times the attackers had been seen off by the well trained Kalmari warriors that made up their escort force, with only some minor injuries to deal with.
But at least they had reached the nation they were traveling too, and had been met by a small border force. When they had explained who they were and their purpose here, they were escorted further into the country. And now they had arrived at the capital. One of the soldiers who had escorted them here sped off on his warg ahead of them, no doubt to inform his leaders that the diplomats had arrived. Gui Chengshi was a beautiful city, built on rolling grasslands. Ranmir took the chance to enjoy the orcish architecture as they were led through the city to their destination. He may be Kalmari, and wouldn't trade that for anything in the world, but there was something comforting about being surrounded by so many Orcs. Kalmar had only a small population of them, mostly in Visata. Having grown up in Pagahara, he was not accustomed to the feeling of seeing so many of his own people in one place. He hoped that he would get the chance to understand them better while he was here.
