A light rain pattered against the metal of arms and armor as the Commonwealth's army began to assemble on their chosen field, banners waving and horns sounding. Based on his scouts' reports, Crown Prince Rhys had pre-empted any attempt by his foes to enter the forest, moving West to force a confrontation on the open field. After all, much of the force of his army lay in its cavalry, guns, and tight formations of disciplined infantry.
Opposing Prince Rhys was a very different kind of army, under the banner of the only other Sylph in the North who could call himself a Crown Prince: Diego de Navaren. Though much larger than the Commonwealth force, it boasted neither heavy armor nor horses - save among the retainers of the Crown Prince himself - and no guns of any sort. Rather, the host of Navaren came in the form of masses of troops in leather, most with no sense of standardization save their tabbards and banners. It was an army that looked as if it had come from a previous epoch, but despite being denied favorable terrain it pressed on. Whether it was out of Prince Diego's sense of honor, or a confidence in sheer numbers, or some other reason Prince Rhys could not know - at least not until he had his opponent face-to-face.

NOTES (Known to both participants)
-- LIGHT RAIN covers the field, imposing a slight penalty to the endurance of bows and firearms.
-- The Commonwealth army has a bonus to cohesion for the Deployment Phase, since it has had some time to prepare its position
-- The Commonwealth Army has FOREST to its back, presenting a viable, covered route of retreat should the battle go poorly.
-- The entire Navarenese army is in range of Commonwealth cannons, which have had time to deploy before the battle.
-- Armies are close enough to one another that Long Range skirmishing units need only make a short advance to target their opponents.
-- From their current positions, standard sylph units in Light Armor or No Armor may traverse up to the full distance to the other army's front lines (at the cost of stamina). Units with improved endurance/stamina may be able to fly further.
