King Rassan sat slumped over the table, gripping his forehead in his hands. The past week had been quite busy for him. The sudden death of King Naheer had sent the kingdom into turmoil. He had so much to learn and so many "advisors" trying to help him learn the ropes.
Of course, the most important issue on the agenda was to investigate the suspicious death of the previous Monarch. What had gone wrong? It was a simple ceremony, really. Every spring, the loyal subjects of Haiho would come out for a lavish celebration. They were usually quiet, work-minded people. But this event signified a welcomed day off to rest and honor Butae for her ample blessings upon the capital. No one was expecting that there would soon be an equally large gathering to mourn the passing of their ruler.
After meeting with church leaders, the new king had decided two things. Their people needed something to rally around, and their city needed to do something to further appease Butae. The decision was clear. The would build a seminary within the temple that would help teach a new era of followers. Additionally, the King himself would oversee a project beautifying the palace with the gold that Butae had blessed them with.
King Rassan did not know if the gods were angry. He did not know if an assassin from a local Kingdom had infiltrated their walls. But he did know he would cover all of his bases.
The king finally mustered the strength to look up from the table. Across the room, working diligently in a corner was the recently appointed explorer Vedrai Redhelm. He had been commissioned to seek out iron from the surrounding lands for the express purposes of reinforcing their armies. The previous king may have been happy with building big walls and minding his own business, but King Rassan knew that time had passed.
"Vedrai, I want you to report back immediately on your findings nearby. Do not waste any time!"
