We just hit 20 nations on the kingdom Apps and I know some player and mods want a crowded map and game, where we are basically going to be fighting like dogs over resources and space, but I also know quite a few players who don't want that, myself included. Vaklu told me he has designed more map and has been trying to convince the other mods to let him include it, but so far hasn't bee able to connivence them.
As a player who does not enjoy war and combat and rather enjoys exploration, I'd like to petition the Mods to add Vaklu's map and to stop forcing a crowded, resource-starved, powder keg situation, where 20 PCs are sharing the map with another half dozen NPCs and there's nowhere nations can turn for resources and expansions without offending someone, or needing to launch wars. This isn't the game I want to play and I feel like we're getting force fed, or railroaded to a certain degree.
So if you're a player and want the mods to add more map and maybe lay off with the seemingly constant push toward war and bad blood between nations, say so here! Just because we aren't mods doesn't mean we shouldn't have an opinion on they sort of game we'd like to this be.

Pretty much this, the map is becoming a giant powder keg of conflict over resources and it is starting to seem like you have no choice but to fight other nations if you want anything done. Its one thing for someone like Spork who wants to form the Holy Esharan Empire and needs to conquer a bit for it. He's fighting cause he has a specific rp themed goal beyond, needing resources.
Granted we do need to interact and I agree on that point but I like to think there's a balance between conflict and diplomacy but hell if I know what I'm talking about.
Also why the sudden increase of npc settlements? Where are these castles coming from, how are independent warlords paying the 6-11 gold a turn to maintain them depending on the kind of walls they have, how are they feeding the populace and the armies necessary to hold them?
It sorta diminishes the importance of castles if there's like 10 independent castles now dotted around the map.
That said, I'm not sure doubling the map is necessary but a little less crowded would be nice. If people are gonna fight it ought to be for rp reasons rather than mechanic induced, 'I need more iron/saltpeter/stone/wood/whatever.' We can trade with each other for resources when necessary.

Zurajai and me made a conscious choice to have the map be crowded and to add independent settlements as well as NPCs. Here are our reasons:
1. Background Lore: This is a substantially inhabited continent, so "empty" space should not be too abundant. There are some frontierlands, and places like swamps and dense forests would not be heavily populated, but in general we're talking about a region where lots of people live throughout.
2. Plot Points: While the first game was meant to be a start small and grow game as a vassal under a powerful liege, this one is supposed to involve many well-established realms vying for power or trying to protect themselves. Easy growth is *supposed* to be somewhat limited compared to last time. This means growth should be through war, diplomacy, and roleplay rather than spamming exploration and villages.
3. Problems with past RPs: We consistently get a lot less conflict than most players would like (sorry MMM) because it is so much more efficient to just expand into "empty" space. This also means we have modest kingdoms expand into terrifying empires without ever actually fighting or negotiating for their power, which is absurd.
4. This RP: This is a Late Medieval Fantasy simulator, not a Colonial RP or Refuge of Allis. This RP should be about a Late Medieval world inhabited by Late Medieval settlements and communities, not a magical empty land.

To add a couple more points.
1. We have also discussed the issue and decided to cap the number of PC nations at 20. Vak isn't willing to do more ledgers than that.
2. There's a long running trend for lots of people to join and some to abandon the forum later; we fully expect a good number of dropouts in the next few weeks.
3. Plans for off-map exploration and discovery are underway. These will require significant time and investment, but the current map is not the ONLY area that will be available.
