History: Short explanation of how your kingdom came to be (2-3 Paragraphs)
Ontaré began as a merchant stop along the river. It slowly grew as people from nearby kingdoms sought to trade with the humans living in the forest. This, of course, also attracted missionaries from the Vaekirate hoping to find more loyal followers in the dense woodland. They were more than successful, drawing in a number of worshipers and establishing a strong church within the lands of Ontaré. The shift from settlement to kingdom was a humble one. The area simply became to populous to manage without a proper head of state, and so one of the wealthier merchant families was formally coronated and given sovereignty over the land.
Ontaré continued to function primarily as a trading outpost for many years. When the Empire encroached on the land, the then king simply struck a deal with the invaders, ensuring the safety of his people and their continued business in exchange for swearing fealty. Once the Empire lost its footing, the Ontarans opened their doors to refugees from all sides, earning the ire of many. They took it as an opportunity not only to endear themselves to those they saved, but also gather more followers for their church. It was at this time that the kingdom shifted from a focus on commerce to a focus on charity. King Enann continues this new tradition, and has made great strides toward strengthening the church.
