Kingdom Name: Elon
Religion:Loul-Aedak.
For that past 400 years, Elon has considered itself Aedak and strongly devout at that, since they were one of the few nations in the north to practice the southern religion so long before the serveakom conquest. Religion has always been a central part of Elonese lifestyle dominating their festivals and playing a major roll in shaping the King's roll toward his people as well as the responsibilities of the lords to both the king and the commoners. Unfortunately, for most of Elon's Aedak history, Messara and the Veakirate were distant and far removed from everyday religion and faith. The Holy books were poorly translated and not very well circulated and most priests fell back on more colloquial stories, songs and local legends to illustrate the moral lessons and teachings of the faith. Without realizing it, Elon's understanding of Aedak religion significantly drifted from the orthodox teachings of Messara. When the southern conquest happened, Elon welcomed Surveak and especially the Veakirate, believing it to be the same faith that they held so dear. For the first decades all was well, since the differences in the religion's theology were not immediately apparent. It wasn't until the latter hlaf of the Southern occupation, when the Veakirtate grew more active and entrenched that conflict started to arises, with tensions arising between native Elonese priests and Messara trained priests, as well as between King Azlyn and Chief Priest Staas in Karmozijn Kerk. These tensions led Elonese native Preist Collyn Raveryn to begin writing a thesis defining the differences and explaining the unique theologies of Elonese Aedak. At the beginning of the 15-years war, when the Veakir excommunicated King Azlyn for refusing to go to war against his own people on the Frontierslands, Raveryn's writings became the ground work for a new heretical branch of Aedak, a religion that has been practiced in Elon for centuries, but never been properly defined.
The Elonese Variant of Aedak, has been newly dubbed by Raveryn as Loul-Aedak. Loul is a word for spiritual direction or a personal path toward enlightenment. Loul-Aedak basically means “Finding the Way to God”. It has three monastic orders and teaches the same three pillars as orthodox Aed, Duty, Mastery and Dignity, along with an emphases on personal enlightenment and a spiritual and moral accountability. Though rooted deep in the traditions and beliefs of the people, Loul – Adeak is still just finding its feet as an independent religion.
History: Elon is an old Kingdom with national history spanning back over eight centuries to when the royal line was founded and the nation first established it’s capitol in Dovwynn. However, it’s hasn’t been able to establish itself in a strong military force for many centuries and has been under the influence of neighboring empires, such as Lecente, Jurturna, Eshara and Surveak for most of recent history. Having considered itself Aedak for the last 400 years, it welcomed the Surveak Empire and Church and flourished under Southern rule, even taking a Southern Noble as it’s queen. Elon peacfully expanded in wealth and territory, until the Elonese Frontiersmen came to open conflict with the Waistland Orcs recently converted by the Church and tensions between Orthodox Aedak and the religious traditions that had developed in Elon caused the church to excommunicate King Azlyn. Shortly after this the Empire went to war with the church and the rebel nations of the south. Elon fought for the Empire, playing a major roll in the western sphere against the Orc nation of the Firetooth, as well besieging Karmozijn Kerk and holding off invasions from the Waistland Tribes. When the Jotun betrayed the Empire and the majority of the Surveak army retreated from the northern continent, Dovwynn came under immediate threat and Elonese forces were vastly outnumbered. Queen Chello signed a peace treaty with the rebels, agreeing to denounce Elon’s loyalty to the Emperor and to cease all war with the rebel nations, however Elon would not agree to lift arms against any of the remaining Loyalist nations in the war. While the southern lords of the Shorlands in Elon agreed to this, most of the northern frontiersmen did not. King Azlyn had traveled north to join them and eventually convinced most of the northern lords to agree to the treaty for the sake of national wellbeing. However, the Kazen tribal lords refused to go along and broke from Elon, betraying the oath they had made to King Azlyn in order to form their own nation. A few other northern lords formed independent mercenary parties and road northwest to keep fighting with the loyalist Ikegami nation, but have since returned. Azlyn returned to his throne in Dovwynn and managed to maintain peace and security until the rest of the war was over.
