EMPEROR VOKORYN II KHAITIS - Born 31 years ago, Reign 12 years ago-present
Vokoryn II is second and only surviving son of Emperor Yvor Khaitis (his first died in childhood). He was named after his great-uncle Prince Vokoryn, who was dear to Yvor and had served a brilliant career as Vizier of the Surv-Akur. As the first Crown Prince of the Second Empire raised in a period of stability, he received arguably the best formal education of any Grand Survaek Emperor ever. He was tutored by sages from every corner of the Empire, and even some from beyond, and learned the great Survaekom Languages as well as some of the North. And Yvor and Daru made sure that he traveled the length and breadth of Survaek, encountering its many geographies and cultures. In his adolescence, he benefited from the finest in Imperial Academy education - natural philosophy, logic, rhetoric, history, military science, law, and even the budding field of political economy. At the same time, he pursued theological studies at the Grand Vaekirate Academy of Foedinei, where he was known to engage the resident Priests in lively discussions from an early age. It was an education that might have overwhelmed the Crown Prince, if he were not so apt at soaking up the knowledge and training offered to him.
Almost everyone of note in the continent, including Vaekir Koen himself, had high hopes for the future Emperor's enlightened reign. And many had their hopes confirmed...but not the Vaekirate. After his father died, Vokoryn II quickly began to but heads with the Mouthpiece of Aed. The most notorious incident was when, after Vaekir Koen denied the Emperor the honor of the Red Cap, the monarch simply commissioned his own Red Cap and assumed the title without Vaekirate approval. He argued quite publicly that such was his birthright as Sword of Aed and son of Yvor, and that the Vaekirate was overstepping its authority by demanding prior approval for every individual Emperor. In his line of reasoning, even Waentaer had this birthright, and the Vaekirate's decision in his case was only valid as a revocation to punish high crimes, not final authority over whether he could have it in the first place. Unless he was convicted of similar atrocity, Vokoryn II claimed, the Red Cap was his by default.
The Emperor's relationship with the Vaekirate has continued to be strained, but in the affairs of his Empire he has been generally well-respected by his subjects. He has maintained the close relationship his father had with the Byrnis urban elite, even marrying a Byrnian noble as Yvor did (though not of the old Royal Family). Furthermore, he has been credited with improving the administration, standardizing entry exams for the Imperial Bureaucracy by region and granting more power to Scribes and Secretaries to check the potential corruption of Councilors.
