Kingdom Name:
Firetooth Clan
Religion:
Orthodox Aedak
History:
The Firetooth were never good vassals. When the Survaekom Empire had come to the north they had offered gold, soldiers, and allegiance in exchange for Autonomy and the right to manage themselves, unhindered by southern bureaucrats. Yet as time went on it became increasingly apparent that the Emperor had no intention of leaving the Firetooth and their Orcish kin alone. Repeated meddlings in the region, the establishment of new forts, and imperial settlers from the south moving into traditionally Orcish lands caused Firetooth discontent to grow by the year. The final straw was when the empire refused to acknowledge clans converted to Aedekom by Firetooth missionaries and announced plans to drive them from their land and replace them with loyal Khaitis settlers. The Firetooth were the first to declare independence, and marched south to support Vaekirate forces.
War in the west was long, brutal, and indecisive. Led by the new Chief Hortak Ironbelly, brave Firetooth militias and their allies clashed with professional Surv-Akur forces Again and again. Through victories, defeats, and horrendous losses they never faltered, proving that Orcish valor and common warriors could match the professional soldiers of the Imperial Army. Hortak proved himself a cunning strategist as well. When the Imperial Army marched north, threatening to besiege Thundercrown itself, he ordered Thunder Dam opened, sweeping the Ryn river with a violent flood that sank most of the Imperial galleys and ruined the army's supplies, forcing them into a humiliating march south without supplies or equipment. Later in the war, he took the gamble of ignoring the siege of Kamizijin Kerk and instead marching east, sacking the poorly defended Ikegami capital of Kegosu and forcing Naozomu to retreat from the Commonwealth. When the Empire split in the south, mercenary forces sailed south to assist the Vaekirate and other nations in their rebellion against the empire.
The war's aftermath has not been kind to the Firetooth: many of their southern villages were destroyed, and their population and treasury badly depleted. But still, the Clan stands strong; they have clashed with the most powerful empire the world has ever known and come out victorious. The clan now stands as a bastion of faith and orthodoxy in the northwest. And if there is one thing their time as vassals has taught the Firetooth, it is that they have more in common with their traditional enemies and kinsmen in the wasteland than they knew. Perhaps it is time for the Firetooth to unite the warring Clans and lead their kinsmen into a new era.
