It wasn't strange to see a Vaekirate priest in the presence of the Chief Priest Staas of the North. What was strange was that the King had sent one as his emissary here today. Zwerkir Fahuan was here on two very important issues for King Aeron and with the threat of the Orc's rising, the urgency of his request became more pressing. The priest waited for the business with the Firetooth to be completed patiently outside the doors.

Zwerker Fahuan was welcomed inside as soon as the time was right, brought before the Chief Priest who immediately welcomed him.
"Welcome, Brother. What can I help you with this fine day?"

Fahuan offered a deep bow to the Chief Priest as was custom, hands folding nervously as he mulled how best to pose the question that might be greeted as treason. '' The King has come to me with certain questions...questions that I have not been able to answer to the best of my ability. I was hoping to seek your aid on the matter... specifically on the Northern Contract and the Empire's claims to hold sway over the North... King Aeron as a devout follower of Aed wishes to know where in the Raegaram the Emperor is given right to rule the world? The answer it does not...and I am troubled that I cannot give His Majesty an adequate answer. '' Of course Fahuan was gently dancing around the issue that Staas had to be aware of. It was a test to see how far he could go before theological questioning was greeted as heresy.

Chief Priest Staas grimaced the moment the question was posed, knowing for years now that such a query would arise as the northern lords became more educated on the content of the Aedaknam and the Raegarnam. Such a question has, in fact, worried many who sought a status quo that supported Southern dominance back in Survaek and it was one that worried even Staas as the concept alone trod the line of heresy. However, it was now too late to dodge such a question.
"A question that I do not have an answer to . . . But one that I will learn. I shall write a missive to you within a three months to answer as I will have to bring the thought to the Conclave."

In the days before the incursion into the wastes, Lord Ikegami Naozumi made the trip to Karmozijn Kerk to make a request of the Chief Priest. This visit was an important one for the Ikegami, during the war much of the contents of the Ikegami temples were confiscated and taken when the Vaekirate took control of them. Many of the scrolls and books taken were treasures of the Ikegami, chronicles of their stories and history alongside wisdom passed along by each of the Daimyo of the clan, it was tradition for each Daimyo to add a few words to the chronicles, it couldn't be done if the Vaekirate still held onto the scrolls.
Naozumi had come today to negotiate their return to Kegosu.

Chief Priest Staas had just recently returned to the Northern continent from the Conclave back in Messara and hesitated to allow visitors. Upon hearing that the guest was none other than Lord Ikegami Naozumi he couldn't help himself but allow the audience; it had been a long time since an Ikegami had come to Karmozijn Kerk and that had not been on the best of terms.
"Lord Ikegami," he called in a hoarse, tired voice just as he began a bow, "I humbly welcome you to Karmozijn Kerk. What can this old Chief Priest do for you?"

Naozumi bowed as was courteous, he could afford nothing less on this endeavor and was not in his nature to be rude. The items he was here to retrieve were too precious to his people to risk losing them because of his own distrust of the Vaekirate itself.
"I apologize for troubling you this late in the season, but the war with the Wastelanders is almost upon us and I had hoped that I would be able to negotiate for the return of the tomes confiscated in the war by the Vaekirate, it has been some time and many of them are precious to our people's culture and traditions."
He paused just long enough to contemplate failure before dismissing it, he would do whatever it took.
"I....would even build a Temple in Kegosu if that was what it took to have them returned." And he hated how desperate he sounded but he wanted them back, it would be a great morale boost for his people.

The Chief Priest raised an eyebrow as he returned to a seated position in his chair, relaxing back as he listened to the elf's plea. He had to admit that he did not expect this sort of reaction by the part of any Ikegami lord, let alone their Patriarch. But, he could not help but sympathize with Naozumi and a knowing smile began to split his visage.
"You have nothing to apologize for, son of the Ikegami; you come seeking your people's culture and that is something the Vaekirate could never despise one for. The tomes in question are here in Karmozijn Kerk, having been meticulously copied and sent to the Holy City of Messara to be added to the great library there. Consider them yours again, without any demands made on your people by the Vaekirate. As to the Temple, this is no requirement to be put on you. If you seek to construct one, do so. It would be hypocritical of me to have argued for Northern Rights in the Conclave only to put demands for something as simple as desiring one's history returned to them."

Naozumi bowed slowly, "Thank you, my people will appreciate having the tomes returned to them."
He didn't want to take any more of the Chief Priest's time and excused himself, he would acquire the tomes and return them to Kegosu, and perhaps consider constructing the Temple in his city.

Many orcs were surprised the Elder Ukhmar had survived his latest bout of illness. The sickness had bitten him deeply and left him bedridden for two months. Even now he had lost much of his muscle and had a lean, gaunt look and even less hair than before. Two of his Great-grandsons took on the task of helping his stand and walk as he entered the Chief Priest's antechamber.
But Ukhmar wasn't done. Somehow he had survived and made it to his 90th birthday and had recovered enough to travel. Now he had come to Kamijouin Kerk to speak with the Chief Priest on business, when his sons were still begging him to rest in bed. Aed had given Ukhmar the gift of a little more time, and he intended to use it as best he could.

Elder Ukhmar was, of course, allowed inside the Chief Priest's antechamber as honored guest and was happily visited by Chief Priest Staas whom bowed before him as they met together.
"Honored Elder, it fills my heart with joy to see you still with us as much as you have earned a seat by Aed's side in the afterlife. Tell me, what has brought you here in such health?"

Ukhmar approached gently, guided by his great-grandsons. They placed a small seat and helped him sit upon it so that he could speak to the Chief Priest without standing; something that would have been stressful for him in his current condition.
"I appreciate the welcome." He replied, smiling at the Chief Priest. "It may not be much longer before I visit Aed himself, but like all old orcs I want to see my descendants and my Clan doing well before that happens. I would like to request a loan from the Vaekirate on behalf of my Clan, so that we can develop our land and establish trade. I would like to see some of our ambitions that were so delayed by the war, come to fruition."

"Do not trouble yourself with any more considerations, honored Elder," immediately intoned Staas, his smile still showing, "You and your people have shown yourselves to be the closest to Aed in all the North and your faith in life shall not go unrewarded in the afterlife. However, as you say you seek the well being of those you leave behind; there need not be any discussion. Simply name the amount you so desire and the loan shall be made; we have no doubts of your willingness and desire to repay debts."

"You honor us with your generosity." Elder Ukhmar smiled. "A loan of thirty thousand jien would be of great assistance. Once we construct additional trade buildings we will be able to pay back the difference quite quickly."
"I am also here to speak of a more theological matter. We have little love for our neighbors to the west, but we have no desire to repeat our history of conflict. I believe that Aed has now given us a way to remedy the issue. Our own conversion and that of of the Wolfwyrd has given us a model to spread Aedekom to the wastelanders, and perhaps curb generations of war. I have spoken with Zwerkir Hazim and others, and we would like to host a conclave at the Cathedral of Erasmus to discuss bringing Aedekom to the wastes. Perhaps by teaching the next generation of missionaries orcish culture and orcish theology, we can more effectively show them the light of Aed."

"That seems like a brilliant plan," mused Staas as he rubbed his chin in contemplation, "If it wouldn't be intrusive I would have members of the Crimson Tome go to this conclave as well. Perhaps we could work together to train these orcish missionaries to best bring the light of Aed to the wastelanders. After their defeat at the hand's of His children they should be much more open to the concept of strong deity."
