The Jarl returned the bow. "Indeed, I have come for your aid in a personal matter. I Would prefer to discuss it somewhere, less open to the ears of others." The last time Tholarg had seen Staas had been at his coronation.

"Of course, Jarl. Come. I have just the place."
With that the Chief Priest led the Jarl back to the Temple of Aed to a closed off back cloister.
"Now. Tell me more about this personal issue."

"As you may know my brother is a warrior of great skill and an impressive general. My wife is worried he has grown too accustomed to the battlefield and I'm inclined to agree with her. I had hoped to find him a wife. A man gains perspective when he has a family depending on him. But I cannot marry him to the daughter of one of my thanes without upsetting the balance of power or making my brother a pawn. I was hoping you might be able to help me arrange a suitable match. If at all possible one of our own kind would be preferable."
Tholarg Seemed concerned for a moment. "While a human or elf would be able to give him children, by our laws they would not be able to inherit any of his titles or lands. Can you think of a suitable partner for my brother? I'd think it would take a strong spirit to be able to stand beside him."

Staas ran a hand across his chin in consideration, rubbing the beginnings of his beard as he listened to the Jarl earnestly. It was certainly an interesting predicament. If it was simple as giving the giant children such things could be handled through royal marriages but in this case a giant was necessary. Staas' face almost lit up when an idea hit him.
"I assume you are familiar with the Tovenaar-Akur Legate Haakon Titanhand. The Legate has a wife and child of his own, both Tovenaar, back in Messara. The child, as luck so happens, is his daughter; Lagertha Haakonsdottir. I have had the pleasure of meeting the girl, though not since she was a child; albeit still standing high enough to look me in the eyes. With the Legate deployed in the North I would be happy to speak with him as to the matter on your behalf. Though I must warn you, the implications of having royalty marry into the Vaekirate, a Tovenaar no less, is certainly unheard of. But, there is a first time for everything I suppose? Neither the Aedaknam nor the Raegarnam forbid it either."

"Has she completed her training?" Tholarg scratched at his chin. "I would have no complaints with her as a match, and I understand Gudrik and the Titanhand got on rather well during the tournament."

"Yes, she has completed her training as a Tovenaar. However, her duties as such are not as . . . pressing as that of a Tovenaar-Akur. I'm sure something could be arranged for her duties to see her to your lands permanently, or at least quite frequently."

"I would be willing to build a college in our capital as as a wedding gift, should her father agree and you deem the action acceptable. I know that Karmozijn Kerk is a place of great learning but for those Tovenaar is the east they may have to travel months to reach what they need. It would also allow Lagertha to continue any works she may need to preform without having to go without the proper tools."

"A mighty fine give, to say the least," cooed Staas as he looked at the Jotun with a wry smile. The giant was certainly pulling every stop on this one. "This seems like a reasonable endeavor. You have my permission, although, you will of course need that of her father. I will act on that particular piece of the puzzle."

"Thank you your grace. I will take my leave for now. I will look forward to the good news and your messenger." With that Tholarg rose then bowed to the Chief Priest.

Mangir had doubts about joining the new order. When Garlog had first "suggested" the idea he had thought it was either an attempt to get rid of him or a desperate bid to curry favor with the Vaekirate. Upon reflection though, he was starting to warm up to the idea. After all, even a Holy Order needed someone to keep the books, make the deals and keep things running. He knew how much money flowed through the Vaekirate's coffers. If he played this right he would control vast amounts of wealth for one of the most powerful organizations on the continent, and that was something he could get behind.
First, however, he had one last job. With Juturna unstable he Firetooth were looking for new trade partners, and the Kirk was a secure and wealthy candidate. He waited patiently for the Chief Priest to be done his latest meeting while counting the cost of all the ornaments in the waiting room.

Mangir Haverlorn was not kept waiting long, presented before the Chief Priest of the North in good order. The tall doors leading into the hall were pushed open, letting Mangir into it's depths to see Staas.
"Mangir Haverlorn. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. You are a representative of the Firetooth, so I am told; a people always welcome in Karmozijn Kerk. What can this humble Priest offer in service?"

"Greetings, holy father. I have come to propose a trade agreement between Kamijouin Kerk and the Firetooth. Chief Garlog is eager to seek new trade partners, and believers that Trade with the Kirk is preferable to renewing its terms with Juturna.
"I also am here on a personal note - to seek your blessing in joining the new order. I hope that my services will serve the Vaekirate well."

"Ah? A matter of coin, not faith? Interesting. Yes, Karmozijn Kerk has had surprisingly small requests for trade in the recent years and our warehouses burst at the seams with goods. This will be acceptable. And as for joining the Wardens of the North, my blessing is given; such an order has need of men such as yourself and your skill will aid them in the coming struggles, I have no doubt."

"You honor me, father. I am sure Chief Garlog will be delighted to hear the news." Mangir reached into his satchel and brought out a large piece of parchment. "If it pleases you, these are the plans for the new cathedral, as determined by a contest among the Firetooth. Chief Garlog and the Elders would also like to hire a company of Tovenaar to assist in its construction, if you can spare them."

"Ah! A fine design indeed," Staas claimed as he perused the blueprints before looking up with a pleased smile, "Now this is worthy of Aed. If I am correct, I believe not a single great work in the North has seen the aid of one of Aed's Tovenaar. I shall send a Master Tovenaar and his brotherhood to assist you. My only request is for your good people to donate to the Wardens of the North: they are hard pressed for faithful servants to guide them and the North will soon need their steadying hand. Beyond that, for this Cathedral the Tovenaar will be at your disposal."
