The Attack on Itziar was a clear Firetooth victory against the young Wolfwyrd Clan. General Tavian Azir could now claim to have defended the ancestral territories of the Guardians of the West. But the victory saw horrific costs in life, and no actual settlements had been captured. And with a third of the Wolfwyrd army on the run, nearby settlements soon learned the news of the sudden attack from their "friendly" southern neighbors.
The question remained: Would General Azir's gamble prove the beginning of a glorious reconquest or a disastrous quagmire?

The Firetooth would of course abide by the Vaekirate's demand for a ceasefire. Aside from their piety, Tavian's actions had caught them by surprise, and they were not overly fond of rushing headlong into a northern war. Even if negotiations broke down, the ceasefire would give them time to plan and consider. Nonetheless, they were not so naive as to not prepare for the resumption of hostilities.
Reinforcements equal to 1,000 Roundshield militia, 1,000 Musket militia, 1 Regiment of cannon and 1 Regiment of Light Infantry were sent north to back up Tavian's exhausted forces. Halgan Firebeard and his surveyors swept the mountains and passes, choosing a position where the Firetooth army could station itself to block any incursion south from the plains or quickly strike at the nearby Wolfwyrd villages.
The Architect Shoral Hin went with him to instruct soldiers in the construction of temporary defenses for what would become a fortified base camp in the region. She would also help "plug" any alternate mountain passes with deliberate landslides, fallen trees and other traps.
A regiment of Firetooth Dragoons was sent to the Northeast fort to patrol and defend against any incursion trying to move around the mountains to the east. From there they could also strike swiftly at the villages to the west if necessary.
While these preparations were being made, a delegation of Firetooth was sent to attend the Vaekirate's mediation and hopefully arrange for a peaceful conclusion to the conflict.

The news of the Firetooth assault spread like fire through the Wolfwyrd lands, riders and runners bringing the word of war and riding on. Scouts were posted at strategic vantages to watch for further incursion, and roamed the country near the villages of Pelara and Lukesern further along the mountains from Itziar. Mobilization of forces was quickly begun, until word came that the Vaekirate requested a ceasefire to mediate.
The reply came back quickly with the bird that delivered it: the Wolfwyrd would agree to a ceasefire and Vaekirate mediation, on the condition that the Firetooth retreat from the site of Itziar to allow the Wolfwyrd to gather and bury their fallen.
Lukene gra Otsana arrives at the designated point for the mediation accompanied by 50 bodyguards and two of her personal advisors, Edrigu gro Bernat and Basa gro Bingen. They all ride fully armed and armored, though they make no aggressive moves unless threatened.

After the battle of Itzair the Firetooth had not simply left the Wolfwyrd dead out to die - they had collected the dead along with their own and made at least nominal funerary rites, as well as treating any injured Wolfwyrd soldiers left behind on the battlefield. For obvious reasons they were not willing to vacate Itzair, but were willing to accomodate the Wolfwyrd's funerary requests. The Firetooth would willingly turn over the Wolfwyrd dead to a delegation, or, if that was unacceptable, guarantee free passage for anyone sent to collect and attend to the bodies.
