Koizumi Chuugo had traveled long and far to New Byrnis in order to meet with the Head of the Merchants guild over an important matter which he intended to bring before them, food and wood would be needed for future construction projects and they had little enough to go around.

At the outskirts of New Byrnis, Koizumi Chuugo was greeted by an envoy of the Guild, an olive-skinned apprentice-girl in simple green robes. She was one of many natives of the Southern Shores whose forebears had come to call New Byrnis their home, learning the Survaekom language and integrating into the imperial capital's cultural landscape.
"Greetings, dignitary of Clan Ikegami," she spoke while giving a somewhat awkward bow. This stranger was more peculiar than usual...Elves were still not an especially normal sight in New Byrnis, and those that did frequent the area usually bore Sefti clothes and customs. "Ehm, right this way sir. I will show you to the Merchants' Guild Hall, where the Master is waiting for you."
The journey was a little longer than the girl made it sound like, past groves and water-mills and artisan blocks until they had nearly reached the city center. Then, finally, she stopped at the entrance of a tall stone building stretching long in one direction, narrow in the other. Inside was a long table, illuminated in vibrant colors by daylight shining through stained glass.
"Welcome, envoy of Daimyo Naozumi Ikegami. Please, sit and make yourself comfortable." The elf's host was a woman in lavish robes sitting at the far end of the table, eyeing him with a curious if wary gaze. "What has your lord sent you to discuss?"

Chuugo bowed respectfully before his host before taking a seat, reaching into his hakama for the small sheet of paper he'd carried for this meeting.
"My Lord wishes to make a trade through the Merchant's guild, several building projects have come up and My lord will need wood and rations for the builders, as such he has offered a grand sum of twelve tons of good stone in exchange for the necessary supplies." He set the paper listing their needs down onto the table for her to read.

Rations for the builders? Ajuran Sujjid knew a euphemism when she heard one: twelve tonnes of grain was the sort of order placed to stem a famine, not to feed a few construction crews. As for the wood, she had expected that some important northerner or another would come to ask for some with the recent hiccup in the market. In normal times, the payment this Lord Naozumi was offering would be more than fair. But this year, she was not about to let clients off easy, let alone some far Northern elf type with no prior dealings with the Merchant's Guild.
"The sum you offer would hardly cover my expenses to have such massive quantities of lumber and food shipped North," she replied matter-of-factly to the Ikegami dignitary. "For the resources you require, I will need gold to supplement the stone. Ten-thousand jiien should about cover it." Sujjid really should have asked for fourteen-thousand, given current market conditions and the total lack of trust she had in her strange client, but she figured it would do well to show mercantile restraint in her first dealing with a northern lord.

Well there went their thought to hire mercenaries to supplement their forces in the east this season but this could be worked with, they'd only need it for two seasons then they would have no need for this merchant association.
"Your terms are accepted." he replied crisply.

In the time after the battle of Thundercrown, Koizumi Chuugo was once again sent to New Byrnis to meet with the merchant's guild. This time his goal was the purchase of iron, stone, and wood for the further expansion of the Ikegami clan.

The Ikegami delegate was once again received in the Guild Hall by Master Adjuran Sujjid. She seemed more at ease this time, now that she had met the client before.
"Greetings and blessings in the name of Aed. What mutually beneficial business have you to propose today?"

Koizumi bowed before the guildmaster, he had not intended to come back here for some time but his lord had given him his orders and he would follow them to the letter.
"Lord Naozumi has asked me to negotiate a price for the purchase of stone, wood, and iron for future Ikegami building projects."

"Under current market conditions," Sujjid began matter-of-factly, "the best prices I can offer are four-thousand jiien per ton of stone, three-thousand per ton of wood, and two-thousand per ton of iron per season. I might be able to offer a discount depending on how much you plan to purchase." She eyed the elf keenly, her calculating mind holding its breath for his answer.

Koizumi considered it, reasonable enough he supposed, they could easily afford the payment and discounts for bulk purchases would be useful.
"The amounts will likely vary each season and for the moment stone is what we need most, the coming season we will likely seek to purchase 5 tons of stone and perhaps a smaller amount of wood but no iron yet, please understand at the moment this is a inquiry as to how much the venture will cost us."

"You have your answer, then," Sujjid stated definitively. "Simply send a courier to the Guild with the volume of your purchase and the required gold, and you will have your order within the season. Now, is that all, or is there other business to attend to?"
