News of the Winter Solstice Festival in Thundercrown spread far and wide. Official couriers from the Firetooth issued invitations to every noble lord and court in the north, while merchants and heralds spread the news among the common folk. The festival would be a grand, week-long affair culminating on the Winter Solstice with a mass service at the newly completed Cathedral of Erasmus. The various Houses all competed to be the most generous hosts, and there were many festivities and games that would go on as the week continued. Four of these games would be particular grand, being sponsored by the Chief himself and prizes provided to the winners.
First would be the Great Auction in the great hall. Merchants from across the north were invited to sell their most expensive, exotic goods in an auction with some of the wealthiest people in the north. The merchant who made the greatest profit would gain an award as well as his sale.
Next was the Bragging Contest in the market square. Contestants were invited to make the most outrageous and entertaining boasts possible to the crowds and judges. The one who had the greatest, most absurd boast would receive a prize.
Third would be the Great Hunt. Hunters from across the north would compete to hunt down and kill the greatest quarries in any style they chose. The greatest hunter would have a feast in their honor, as well as an award from the Elder Council.
Last was the Winter Games. Teams of thirty would compete to capture their opponent's flags fighting only with snow on the fields outside of Thundercrown. The winning team would receive a prize and award.
Rumor also spoke of a private consecration ceremony to be held the morning of the Winter Solstice, headed by the Chief Priest himself. But this event was by invitation only, and only the most important people in the north could dare hope to receive one.
