Two Firetooth orcs, one Jotun giant, and one Ikegami elf entered the field accompanied by drums beating, horns sounding, and crowds cheering. All had proven themselves worthy fighters, each would receive at least an honorable mention for making it this far. But the true glory awaited the one who best them all and claim the Warrior's Medallion, highest honor of the Grand Tournament of the North. For this event, all duelists would be in the field at once. As before, a small "hill" marked the center, but now the flat edges of the field were cut off by a tall wooden wall, forming a concentric ring. Chief Garlog Whiteshot and Ikegami Masateru would fight each other in this ring, while Carok Ironbelly would engage Wulfric Thunderfist from atop the hill. Once each of these fights had concluded, the event overseer would open a gate between the two sections and instruct one of the combatants to go through. __________ Brackets <-(Hyper link) -- For the first rounds, every player post once, referring to the Brackets to identify their opponent if necessary. No particular order is required, but every post should include a general strategy as well as the arms and armor of the fighter. (Strong armor is recommended. Though tournament weapons are blunted, severe hits can cause serious bruising and fractures. Some can even kill). -- Giant weapons must be one-handed. -- Once every player has posted, a modmark will list the winners and losers with a commentary for each duel. -- For the second round, initiative goes to whoever posts first. The other will respond, and then a modmark will determine the winner. -- As illustrated above, this event will take two modmarks.

Masateru checked his armor again, made sure armor was tightened and ready, it was a more moderate armor compared to the usual heavy armor he wore. The hill would be problematic if he wore heavy armor but he likewise couldn't afford to sacrifice too much protection, he would need it if he was to win the day. He had narrowly defeated his brother in single combat which made him excited if nothing else, he'd finally proven himself the better duelist.
For his fight he'd decided to come prepared, his katana was on his belt but he didn't plan to use it at least not at first. He'd brought a Naginata with him today, the weapon had a good range and reach as well as having more leverage. The weight of the weapon would likewise give him power to each strike without overbalancing him. And if he did need to discard it, he had his katana ready, Masateru like all Samurai was a skilled practitioner of Iajutsu, the art of the draw and would use those skills if he was forced to drop the naginata to hit Garlog quickly before the orc could react and press his attack.

Wulfric would walk onto the battlefield in the same armor and with the same equipment. He would break Ironbelly's defense the old fasioned way with brute force and the Stamina of the Jotun. He would not allow the orc any time to catch his breath.

Garlog finally took up the arms of a Traditional Firetooth, but with modifications. His shield was several inches wider than normal and exceptionally sturdy. He intended to use his superior strength to push, bash, and batter the frail elf with a wooden wall, pinning him against the edge of the ring. Once there he could easily score hits against the elf, who would have a hard time using his blade in such close quarters.
---------------------
Carok didn't change his arms, although he switched his shield out for a fresh one. He was taking the long view: even if he beat the giant he would have to immediately face his next opponent, with no time to rest. Playing defensively and saving his energy would give him an advantage against whomever he fought next.

The clash between Garlog and Masateru began with the crunch of blade against shield and the clangs of blade against blade, neither combatant managing to break past the other's defense. The turning point came when the elf made a slight mistake in his footwork, which Garlog exploited with a ferocious shield bash. The Ikegami general could not help but reel, putting enough pressure on his misplaced left ankle to sprain it. The moment of pain was all Garlog needed to finally maneuver around his opponent's naginata and deliver a blow to his head. Masateru's well-honed Iajutsu skills allowed him to return the favor, spear dropping and sword swinging out before the orc could register the movement. But unfortunately for him, that was the only strike he would land in the duel. With a relentless flurry of swings, Garlog scored one, two, and finally three blows to the elf's torso, winning him the duel. The final score was Garlog 5 / Masateru 2.
Many spectators believed the duel between Wulfric Thunderfist and Carok Ironbelly would be a short exercise in mopping up after the giant managed to push the orc off the hilltop in the first few seconds of fighting. In his charge, Wulfric had delivered a mighty blow to Carok's head, though the Firetooth had managed to return with a blow to the giant's body as he was pushed down the slope. But, in an amazing show of resilience, Carok Ironbelly managed to fend off the giant's assault for minutes, trading body-strikes with his immense opponent. The deciding moment would be when, as the orc landed yet another bash to Wulfric's breastplate, the Jotun warrior succeeded in bashing Carok's head a second time. The giant won his inevitable victory, but the orc had put up a far better fight than anyone could have expected. The final score stood at Wulfric 6 / Carok 5.
With the semifinal duels over, the event overseer duly entered the ring. She first instructed Masateru and Carok to exit. Based upon their respective performances, she announced that Carok Ironbelly would receive the Third Place Medallion, while Ikegami Masateru would receive an honorable mention.
Once the two defeated of the semifinals had left, the overseer proceeded to the gate between the concentric rings, unlocked it, and opened it with a heave.
“Chief Garlog Whiteshot! Enter and take your place atop the hill! Wulfric Thunderfist! Remain standing where you are, and turn to face your opponent! When the horn sounds, begin! May Aed shower his blessings upon the victor!” With that, she left the ring and waited for the combatants to take their places. This would be a battle for the ages.

This time Wulfric would scale the hill a bit more cautiously with his shield high and his longsword ready for a counter blow. He did not intend to come strait on at the orc. Instead he would circle the hill counter clockwise as he climbed, forcing Garlog to keep turning to face him and preventing him from ever being able to properly plant his feet. If the orc faltered he would capitalize and claim the victory.

This would be a battle of shield and blade. Garlog mounted the hill, lifted his heavy shield and watched the approaching giant carefully. His victory over Masateru had been relatively swift - if he could outlast the giant time was on his side. He'd play it carefully, keep his footing and let Wulfric struggle to climb the hill.

Moderation Mark
Garlog had held firm against every opponent the tournament had thrown at him, even the famed Blood Dancer. His stance had the strength of a cliff-side, his arms the brutality of rocky crags: his enemies had broken like waves against them. But today, the Chief's enemy took a different approach than he had gotten used to over the course of the single combat events. Instead of driving forward aggressively or trying to beat the orc at his own game, Wulfric Thunderfist danced around him like a wolf. It was a tiring exercise, a tactic that depended on creating an opening before it exhausted its own practicioner. Fortunately for the giant, he induced just enough hesitation and confusion in his opponent to make it work. With Wulfric determined to threaten him from every direction, Garlog's footwork jammed for a split second as he made the mental transition from stoic to spry. But by then, it was too late: Wulfric's sword whooshed through his open right flank into his temple, sending his thoughts tumbling. His sword went up instinctually, but his shield-arm had dropped limp for a moment from the shock . Bam! Now his left temple was sore as well. Wulfric Thunderfist watched his opponent stumble backwards, off from his hilltop. Now he would do just as he had to Carok, pushing down with a flurry of swings. Chief Garlog Whiteshot of the Firetooth Clans hadn't even made it to the bottom of the hill before a strike landed hard against his collar-bone, ending the match. In a stunningly lopsided match, the score was settled at Garlog 0 / Wulfric 5.__________ -- Chief Garlog Whiteshot wins Second Place Medallion. -- Wulfric Thunderfist wins WARRIOR'S MEDALLION!
