Time: Afternoon
Terrain: Low rolling hills
Weather: Heavy rain
With supplies running low and the enemy threatening to impose more attrition than the Jotun could match, Thane Gudrik opted to for an immediate all-out assault with all the troops he could muster. The weather was far from perfect: Thick raindrops splatted against giants' armor and weapons as the Blood-Dancer led his attack force out of camp in a rigid march. Further back, the only thing keeping the Survaekom cannons and muskets functioning was a thick tarp of dismantled hide tents covering the densely-packed formation.
General Stae Pjjokhat, presiding over the artillery block, had packed his own troops in the front: cannons and crews, marine musketeers, and dismounted knights. They would constitute the core of his battle group as well as the primary concentration of firepower. Behind them stood the giant longbows and marines, while the flanks were occupied by the hardy raiders. Together they formed a square that, Pjjokhat hoped, would ward off any of Jodsar's would-be flankers.
Meanwhile, the bulk of the army moved with the Thane, proud Jotun shieldwall followed by the regular archers and what remained of the Greatswords in a thunderous but rhythmic stomp. They were ready to wear the enemy down until Stae's battery punched a breach in the walls. Few doubted it would take long to knock down a section of the wild orcs' flimsy palisade.
_
Jodsar hardly noticed the rain pelting his armor and soaking his warg's fur: His every nerve was focused on sight and sound, anything that could clue him in to an opening for an attack. He heard distant booms, almost like thunder but for the crunch of broken wood and orcs that came after. The invaders had made their move...now it was time for him to make one.
