Coming up river from the kingdom of Elon was a mall skiff. After it made landing a runner with a letter arrived at the hall of Chief Garlog Whiteshot. The parchment was salt stained had marks from slight water damage but was ledgable regardless.
To Chief Garlog Whiteshot of the Firetooth, Shield of the West,
I wish to inform you of the expedition I lead into the wastes in the name of my brother and with the blessing of Vizier. I plan to use a point on the river as a staging point that is within your kingdom and felt it would be best to inform you before hand. I would be grateful for any inteligence on the Wastelander tribes you would be willing to share and if you would be willing to meet with me in person please send the ship that carried this letter back down river. I am currently a guest in the kingdom of Elon and we will meet the ship on our way up river.
With great respect
Thane Gudrik

Chief Garlog did not meet the advancing Jotun personally, but a hundreds-strong contingent of Firetooth soldiers was sent to hold the bridge that would function as the giant's launching-point. The orcs had the position fortified for the giant's return, and were ready with large amounts of supplies the giants might need in the wastes - more than they would need if all went went. If the giants had difficulty they could easily fall back to the staging point to resupply and defend.
The commander of the group carried a letter sealed and stamped with Garlog's personal seal. He gave it to the thane as soon as they arrived.
To Thane Gudrik, Fury of the East
I regret that I cannot join your little hunting expedition; it has been too long since I blew a wastelander's head off. But urgent matters in the capital require my attention and the Elder Council has refused to send more of our forces out. I hope that the supplies and troops I have managed to provide will be enough. Along with this letter I have sent Gormith Wargchaser and a handful of companions as an attendants to your group. Two are skilled scouts who know the wastelands well, and the rest are skilled retainers at arms. Allow them to accompany you on your expedition.
Good hunting. If you bring back a warchief's head I'll throw you a party myself in the great hall.
Chief Garlog Whiteshot
