The daimyo was guided into the palace in the usual custom, which he had become well familiar with by now. The only difference was that now, the figure in gold-embroidered black robes was not the old Ishui Seldu, but the young Adjuran Sujjid.
"Aedadil, Daimyo Ikegami Naozumi," she greeted in traditional Survaekom parlance. "To what, whether good fortune or difficult trial, do I owe the honor of your visit?"

Naozumi bowed before the Vizier, he had little knowledge of her beyond what he had heard from Chello and minor dealings with her during her time as Head of the Merchants guild in New Byrnis. This would be his first interaction with her in her formal role.
"I have come here for two reasons Your Excellency, the first is to request Imperial assistance with the war between the Commonwealth and Jotun Clans, I believe I have been somewhat successful at convincing both sides to ceasefire and seek diplomatic resolution to the matter. I would humbly request an Imperial Trial to resolve the matter once and for all peacefully."
Naozumi paused for a moment before continuing.
"The second reason I have come here is to request permission to construct an Imperial Castle in the Spring of the New Year." |

Vizier Sujjid spent a long moment in thought, letting her head rest in her palm as she pondered the matter. The question of the castle was simple enough; there was always a division to spare in the South ever since the Defeat of Raethon had virtually ended warfare in the South. After all, there would have been no Northern Conquest had it not been for Yvor's great victory there. The matter of the Jotun-Commonwealth conflict would be more difficult, however. Sujjid couldn't afford to trample all the good will Ishui Seldu had built between the Jotun Clan and New Byrnis, but nor could she allow the sea raiders a free hand if her projects for Northern-Southern trade were to go forward. As for the Commonwealth, King Aeron's cause had some justice to it but his reputation did not. His loyalty was dubious at best, and the Vizier was loathe to mediate a deal that could grant him and his virtual empire-within-an-empire any more legitimacy than absolutely necessary.
"Both of your requests are granted," Vizier Adjuran Sujjid finally replied. "The trial will take place in the Palace of New Byrnis in four weeks' time, before the Autumn ends. Both King Aeron Sefti and Jarl Tholarg Wolfkin must be present. As for the Imperial Castle, expect its garrison to arrive within a month of its completion."

Naozumi bowed before the Vizier, a pleased smile on his face, the meeting had gone better than expected, now he could be assured of a peace in the North to be mediated.
"Thank you your excellency, an Imperial announcement calling for the ceasefire and the trial in New Byrnis would add assurances to both sides of preventing hostilities from breaking out again." |
