Chello had listened closely. She believed all sides had put forward a very good effort and was far more relieved by the aspect of this ending peacefully than she would have expected. War between their allies had been the last thing Elon as wanted, but she hadn't realized how much the strain of the impending war had clinched at her mind. Even in her relief, however, she was wary and Ishui's comments about the River Hills and the islands of the Middle Sea did not pass her by without leaving a little concern there. Hessnya and Vinaya may not have interest in these territories, but such was not the case for Elon. They were already investing much time and money into securing their share of the River Hills provinces and though no move had been made toward the islands yet, such holdings would be key to trade with the south and control of the waters. New Byrnis was an ally and she would rather have these lands in the hands of the Free City than in the hands of pirates or the Jotun, but she did not like to see Elon's own chances at these holdings whisked away.
She said nothing though. Elon's involvement in the treaty was simply as an overseer and she could speak more easily with Ishui Veliu on the matter at another time and place.

"Very well, I accept your timetable for the lumber and stone delivery, noble Doge," the Grand Mayor conceded. "I accept your terms of mutual non-aggression with Vinaya and Juturna as well. The Free City has no interest in needless conflict along the Southern Shores, and such pacts will surely bring the region security and prosperity for generations to come." She turned to face her primary counterpart. "Now, King Alfared of Hessnya, are these terms acceptable to you?"

Alfred struggled with dark anger. The absurdity of the demands being placed upon him weighed heavily, and he was sorely tempted to draw his sword and challenge the traitorous woman to defend her accusations in the ring. But he also understood the sheer immenseness of the forces arrayed against him. Even if he slew her or refused her offer, how could Hessynia stand against such might? Kier's Climb was formidable, but New Byrnis had half the north at its beck and call. Still, he could not completely put aside his pride and anger. Not like this.
"I do not trust you." He said bitterly to Ishui. "I will take your unjust offer, but I demand some assurance of faith in this pledge. I will not hand over half my kingdom on the hope that you will hold to a simple promise."

"If my signature on the treaty is not enough," the Grand Mayor replied calmly, "I would be willing to swear an oath before Aed. I would expect a reciprocal oath from you upon your own gods, however."

"Sworn before your Chief Priest as a witness then." Alfred insisted. "So that all may know of your pledge."

"Very well," the Grand Mayor agreed. "Shall we send a summons to the Kerk, or go ourselves to its environs for the necessary proceedings?" The question was directed not only at the King, but the other delegates as well.

"The Kerk is hardly neutral ground." Alfred pointed out. "We will wait here."
